Cynomolgus monkeys have served as nonhuman primate models in several studies of aging, although not to the extent to which rhesus monkeys have been used. There are three major categories of aging in which the cynomolgus monkey has been used: 1) studies of normal aging, 2) monkey models of neurodegenerative diseases, and 3) monkey models of menopause. This presentation will review the information derived from these observational and experimental studies to highlight the usefulness and limitations of this species of nonhuman primate for aging research.
